This issue of Global Economic Outlook presents its regular overview of recent and expected developments in selected territories, focusing on key economic variables: inflation, GDP growth, leading indicators, interest rates, exchange rates and commodity prices. It contains analysis "Shadow policy rates – alternative quantification of unconventional monetary policy", it applies the concept of shadow rates to quantify the effect of the unconventional monetary policy instruments of the ECB and the Fed and thereby indicate the degree of monetary policy easing achieved in terms of interest rates.

The economic context of disintegration of the Czechoslovak Federation in 1990 - 1992

My bachelor thesis evaluates the split of the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic, from an economic point of view and is divided into three parts. The first part describes the function of the Czech-Slovak Federation in normalization years 1969 - 1989 and its subsequent disintegration. Bachelor thesis is focused not only on economic and economical development but also on social and political development, because exactly that one was in mentioned years an important determinant of economic development. The main part will analyze the development of Czech-Slovak Federation in 1990 - 1992. I evaluate mainly the complexity of mostly federal coexistence in a pluralistic democracy. I focus on the preparation and introduction of economic reforms, the voucher privatization and its acceptance by each of the different republics. I analyze the different impact of economic reforms on economic development and the main macroeconomic indicators in each of the republics. The last part follows the collapse of the federation and the subsequent necessary changes, such as the question of determining citizenship, issues of property division and the establishment and development of customs and monetary union. I also analyze the nature of cohabitation in Czechoslovakia in 1992. The aim of this work is to point out that the economic disparities between those two republics were not given by economic reform, and to show that these differences had an affect on the division of Czechoslovakia.

Political determinants of economic reforms: case study of of pension schemes

The work aims to explain the character and success/failure of pension reforms with help of political explanatory variables. The constitution of given political system is considered, as well as the actual political alignment and the role of electorate, in explaining the processes underlying the pension scheme reforms - a major topic of today's aging societies. The case study approach is used, utilising the recent experience of Great Britain and Sweden in reforming the pensions. The findings are compared with the results and conclusions suggested by a dynamic economic model of pension scheme switch, demonstrating eventually what factors and conditions are favorable for pension reforms, both from the political and the economic point of view.

Economist Frantisek Ladislav Chleborad

This thesis is concerned with Frantisek Ladislav Chleborad, Czech economic thinker who did not recieve as much attention as he deserved. Chief aim of this thesis is to describe the situation in which beginning Czech economic thinking took place. Chleborad, as one of its first actors, has his thoughts in this thesis described in detail. This has never been done before because Chleborad and especially his engagement in creating of cooperatives in 19th century, that failed, resulted in creating many enemies. Czech economists that came after Chleborad knew him but they would deny it. Information that are available about Chleborad and his teachings are limited. I tried to fill that gap.

Special Economic Zones in PRC in 1980s

Cílem této práce je analyzovat vývoj čínských zvláštních hospodářských zón (SEZ) a způsob, jakým ovlivnily čínskou ekonomiku po jejich založení v 80. letech 20. století. Zmíněna jsou vysvětlení pojmu SEZ, stejně jako některé teorie regionálního rozvoje. Dále, výkon SEZ v 80. letech je porovnán s důvody, které vedly k založení SEZ. Podán je i krátký popis vývoje SEZ Shenzhen v první polovině 80. let.

Hospodářské reformy v Sovětském svazu (1985 ? 1991)

Cílem této seminární práce je analýza vývoje charakteristik Sovětského svazu během reformního období spojeného s M. S. Gorbačovem. Právě proměně základních atributů sovětského systému se věnuje první část práce. Pro druhou část práce jsem vybral konkrétní reformní kroky sovětského vedení, které měly přispět k obnovení hospodářského rozvoje. U těchto opatření jsou popsána jejich východiska, zamýšlené důsledky a skutečné dopady. Celá práce by tak měla svým obsahem přispět k diskuzi o možnosti reformování sovětského hospodářství i samotného Sovětského svazu. Práce dokazuje, že upuštění od základních znaků sovětského systému spolu se změnami v hospodářství nevedlo k nastolení rozkvětu ekonomiky a státu. Ale naopak výrazně přispělo k celkové destabilizaci, a proto práce dokazuje nereformovatelnost Sovětského svazu i jeho hospodářství.

Hospodářské reformy v Čínské lidové republice v letech 1979-1989

Tato práce pojednává o hospodářských reformách v Čínské lidové republice, které byly provedeny v letech 1979 až 1989. Cílem je podat přehled o uskutečněných krocích čínské vlády v 80. letech a zhodnotit jejich výsledky. Tato práce analyzuje široké spektrum čínských reforem, věnuje se sektoru zemědělství, průmyslu, cenovému systému, bankovnímu a finančnímu systému, školství a největší pozornost je věnována zahraničnímu obchodu. U každé z těchto oblasti jsou vyjmenována základní opatření provedená v této první reformní etapě, která přispěla k celkové modernizaci čínské ekonomiky. Na závěr práce jsou ilustrovány výsledky čínských reforem na vybraných makroekonomických ukazatelích, zejména na růstu hrubého domácího produktu, na vývoji inflace, na vývoji příjmů a výdajů vládního sektoru a na platební bilanci. Hospodářské reformy v 80. letech, o kterých je tato práce, položily základ pozdějších ekonomických úspěchů Číny.
